Mass shave-off to raise £300,000 for charity

1 October 2008

More than 100 men have gathered in London for a mass shave off to mark the end of the TacheBack campaign, in aid of the testicular and prostate cancer charity, Everyman.

Using their free Remington 360 Series Shaver the TacheBack brigade parted with their fur, during a party to celebrate the end of the TacheBack fundraising campaign.

Thousands of men all over the UK ditched their razors and grew sponsored taches throughout September to raise more than £300,000 for male cancer.

Celebrities, comedian Charlie Higson, television and Absolute Radio (formerly Virgin Radio) presenter Sarah Champion, soap actress Lucy Evans and Remington’s Grooming Guru Steven Goldsworthy judged the Tache of the Year.

Winner, High Barnet painter Stephen Murphy strutted his handlebar, dressed in 1930’s boxing get-up.

“I came here to win, there was no coming second. It means the world,” he said before shaving off his award winning tache with a Remington shaver.

Judge Steven Goldsworthy said: "I was most impressed with the enthusiasm and passion shown on the catwalk as well as the dedication and high caliber of moustaches that have obviously been groomed to perfection. It was a tough decision as they all did such a fantastic job and all for such a great charity.”

The 250-strong crowd warmed up with a Flex Facial Workout designed exclusively by Remington to firm up those frown lines, tone up that turtle neck and get TacheBackers ready to parade their tache down the catwalk.

Judge Charlie Higson said: “I’ve never seen such an array of fine facial hair. There’s been a great atmosphere this evening which has been made even better by the hundreds of thousands of pounds that these guys have raised for prostate and testicular cancer research.”

Absolute Radio (formerly Virgin Radio) presenter Sarah Champion said: “There is nothing more appealing than a man with a tache who is growing his bristles for charity,” she said. “The winning tache had style, panache and personality.”
