Tigers get furry for fundraiser
12 September 2008
Hull City FC players, led by goalkeeper Matt Duke, are growing furry moustaches in a bid to help raise £1 million for the Everyman Campaign’s TacheBack fundraiser.

Duke, a testicular cancer survivor, is calling on other men to join the TacheBack phenomenon and grow a sponsored ‘tache this September and raise vital funds for prostate and testicular cancer.
Duke played an integral role as part of Hull City’s push for promotion, before he was diagnosed with testicular cancer late last year. He is now a keen supporter of Everyman, the UK’s leading male cancer campaign, and sees TacheBack as a light hearted way to raise money for a serious cause.
Duke said: “If you’re going to up against some of the best players in the world, style becomes an important factor and nothing says style like a good, strong ‘tache! It would be great if Hull City fans followed suit and decided to grow a sponsored moustache too. Everyman does amazing work to find treatments for prostate and testicular cancer, diseases which affect about 37,000 men every year in the UK.”
Duke posed with a fake ‘tache this week hoping that his moustache will be equally bushy by the end of September.
With a new warrior theme, this year's competitors are invited to enter the 'arena' and compete against other hairy warriors from across the UK, either as an individual or as part of a ‘tache team. Male shaving and grooming brand, Remington is a strong supporter of TacheBack and will be supplying a ‘tache-tastic weekly prize for those taking part in the online weekly ‘tache challenges.
TacheBack spokesperson, Sarah Healy said: “It’s great to have Matt’s support for this year’s TacheBack and hopefully he can help spread the word among Hull City and football fans alike. It would be great to see loads of tached men in the stands behind Matt’s goal this season. Remember for the folically challenged, you can download a ‘tache for your mobile by visiting www.tacheback.com/mobile and help us on the way to reaching our £1 million target!”

Notes to Editor
- Everyman is a campaign run by The Institute of Cancer Research, to raise awareness and fund research into testicular and prostate cancer at The Everyman Centre – Europe’s first and only centre dedicated to male cancer research.
- The Institute of Cancer Research is Europe’s leading cancer research centre with expert scientists working on cutting edge research. It was founded in 1909 to carry out research into the causes of cancer and to develop new strategies for its prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care. Website is at www.icr.ac.uk
- Prostate cancer has overtaken lung cancer to become the most common cancer in men affecting almost 35,000 men every year in the UK. About 10,000 men die each year, equal to one man dying of prostate cancer in the UK every hour.
- Testicular cancer is the most common form of cancer in men aged between 15 and 44, with about 2,000 cases a year in the UK. Incidence is increasing dramatically – by almost four-fold in the past 50 years, but thanks to advances made at Everyman, if caught early testicular cancer is 99 per cent curable, and with treatment the overall cure rate is 95 per cent.
