Help Everyman Cross Out Male Cancer
June Marks the 10th Annual Everyman Male Cancer Awareness Month
24 May 2007
Throughout June, Everyman is urging the nation to take part in its 10th Annual Everyman Month to help raise awareness of, and fund research into, prostate and testicular cancer – a subject often neglected despite one man an hour in the UK dying from prostate cancer alone. A whole host of names are lending their support including Dermot O’Leary, Frank Skinner, Jason Donovan, Linford Christie and Sir Terry Wogan.
Prostate cancer has overtaken lung cancer as the most common cancer in men, and the incidence of testicular cancer has increased dramatically - almost 4-fold in the last 50 years. And it’s not only men who need to take notice - women play a crucial role in encouraging loved ones to visit doctors and making sure the message is heard loud and clear.
Sir Terry Wogan comments: "Much more research is needed to discover the causes of prostate cancer and to find better treatments. Making a donation during Everyman Male Cancer Awareness Month helps fund this vital work and ultimately saves lives."
To get on board, take part in one of the specially organised events in aid of Everyman or organise your own event – just do something! Check out www.everyman-campaign.org for further information.
The FA, The PFA and the Everyman Male Cancer Campaign ran the annual ‘Keep Your Eye on the Ball’ awareness fortnight from the 4th – 18th March 2007, helping to raise awareness of testicular and prostate cancer to the football community.
