Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy
In recent years Everyman scientists have developed Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy, a new, more accurate, technique of delivering radiotherapy. This technique could lead to a reduction in side-effects, creating the possibility of giving higher doses, leading to an increased cure rate.
Everyman scientist at the ICR, Professor David Dearnaley, also initiated and led trials which proved that higher doses of radiotherapy improved rates of remission by 30 per cent for men with localised prostate cancer. This treatment has since been incorporated into NICE guidelines as standard treatment for this type of cancer.
